CNHM: Geology of the Northwoods: Sandstone

Join geologist Fred Haueter on a 38-mile driving tour that highlights the geology of Chequamegon Bay and the Bayfield Peninsula. Meet at Mellen Park (picnic shelter) in Mellen at 9:00 a.m., and end at Houghton Falls, Bayfield at 3:00 p.m. Participants will explore modern rivers and shorelines and discover how they correlate to features in our local sandstone bedrock. An introductory lecture via Zoom will precede the trip at 7:00 pm on September 22. Dress for the weather. Bring lunch, snacks, and water. You don’t have to be a certified Master Naturalist to participate! Any adult learners are welcome. Register by September 20.
