 Fishing & Hunting
Northern Wisconsin tourism was borne from fishermen and hunters making their way to the pristine land and water of the Cable Area. The tradition continues today on dozens of lakes and thousands of acres of public land.
Lake Namakagon is one of three lakes in Wisconsin managed as a trophy musky lake and regularly produces 40+ inchers. Progressive new regulations let the novice to expert angler bring some of the abundant walleye to the fry pan! Lake Owen has walleye, too, and is known for its outstanding bass and northern fishery. Crappies and panfish are plentiful in all the waters, including the many wilderness lakes which are accessible only by foot and best fished by bellyboat.
Ice fishing is a favorite pastime of residents as well as vacationers in the area. Ice fishing equipment is available for rent. Or you may wish to experience charter fishing on Lake Superior, an easy drive from the Cable Area.
If you are looking for large areas of public land where you can hunt with little competition from others, come to the Cable Area. Whitetail deer, black bear, ruffed grouse and waterfowl are the most commonly hunted species, but don't forget the woodcock, gray squirrel, snowshoe hare, coyote and fox. For the hunter who perers to walk, many miles of trails have been developed, and there are over 11,000 acres of non-motorized designated wilderness area.
